Get involved and help shape the future of CHEST! We are currently accepting applications for the leadership areas listed below, with terms beginning January 1, 2024.

Now Open: 2023 Call for Committee Applications

APPLY NOW Deadline: Friday, June 9, 2023

All CHEST members, including fellows-in-training and nonphysician clinicians, are encouraged to apply to areas of interest, up to three committee positions. Each committee opening is unique. Please review all positions in detail.

CHEST follows a self-nomination process. We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion throughout CHEST and actively support applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds who are underrepresented in the field of chest medicine.

Submissions will be reviewed and voted upon by current committee members. All recommended candidates will be submitted for final approval to Jack Buckley, MD, MPH, FCCP, CHEST President-Elect.

Each committee or work group is unique in their own way. Committee openings are highly competitive, so please only apply to positions in which you are truly interested.

Reviewing the Details
Carefully review expectations for the committees in which you are interested. Requirements vary by committee and position. To ensure you meet these requirements in terms of time, experience, and expectations, please read the “Eligibility” section of each committee.

Statement of Interest
Each committee opening requires a statement of interest (SOI), no more than 500 words. Make sure your SOI is personalized to the role to which you’re applying. It is highly encouraged to not use the same SOI for each position to which you are applying. Highlight your experience as it relates to that group’s roles and responsibilities as listed in each of the committee drop-down menus.

For example, if you are applying to the Scientific Presentations and Awards Committee, note that you have submitted posters/abstracts or have served as a grader; or, if you are interested in applying to the Training and Transitions Committee, note how you directly work with fellows in your institution, whether in serving as program director or faculty member.

Please have all SOIs prepared before formally submitting your application.

Condensed CV
We ask that you upload a current condensed CV during the application process. Condensed CVs should be between 8-10 pages.

Letters of Recommendation
If you are applying for a position that requires a letter of recommendation (LOR), please refer to the “Eligibility” section of the committee description to ensure you obtain appropriate LORs.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Statement
CHEST is committed to establishing an inclusive and equitable leadership network that is representative of the diversity of not only our members but of the patients we serve. We ask that you please provide a brief statement discussing your commitment to equity and inclusion and how this commitment will meaningfully contribute to our larger goals in these areas.

Eligibility

All applicants must be members of CHEST and current in their dues.

You must have the following prepared before continuing with the nomination process:

  • Statement of interest (less than 500 words).
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion statement (less than 500 words)
  • Condensed curriculum vitae (8-10 pages).
  • Conflict of interest (COI) disclosure (CHEST staff will reach out to obtain this information following your submission).

Instructions

  • You can apply to more than one committee at a time, up to three open positions.
  • Only self-nominations will be accepted.
  • If you choose to apply to more than one committee for a position, please have all statements of interest prepared before continuing.
  • You will not be able to save and return to complete your nomination.
  • The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, June 9.
