Mechanical Ventilation

The Mechanical Ventilation Certificate of Completion (COC) Program provides hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical ventilation, describing basic features of positive pressure breathing, exploiting ventilator graphics using equation of motion, and identifying key determinants of ventilator-induced lung injury. Become an expert at determining conventional settings for treating acute respiratory failure, as well as integrating new strategies for providing life support while simultaneously protecting the lung. Take these individual courses, or work toward the Certificate of Completion.

Program Requirements

(Must be completed within 3 years of starting the program; listed in recommended order of completion.)

  1. Attend Mechanical Ventilation: Advanced Critical Care Management

    Acquire extensive knowledge in advanced techniques and skills for mechanical ventilation in the critically ill patient, including the latest advances in ventilator technology through lectures, interactive discussion, hands-on small group workshops, and case-based exercises. This comprehensive, interactive program emphasizes practical solutions for issues related to patients in respiratory failure. Topics include ventilator modes, ventilator-induced lung injury, management of obstructive and parenchymal lung disease, management of hypoxemia, and patient-ventilator synchrony.

  2. Pass a Final Comprehensive Assessment Exam

    Successful performance on an examination administered at the CHEST Annual Meeting is the final requirement. All previous requirements must be met before taking the exam. Purchase in our online store.

    You are required to complete the COC program within 3 years.
