Gain practical experience with the necessary technical aspects for performing PFT calibration, maneuvers, and testing. Perform testing on-site according to accepted standards, acquiring valuable experience in spirometry, flow-volume loops, lung volume measurement, maximal respiratory pressures, gas transfer measurements, nitrogen washout, helium dilution, methacholine or hyperosmolar saline challenge, and arterial blood gas measurements. Learn high-level interpretive strategies, reinforced with case-based clinical examples. Hands-on demonstrations and lectures will address appropriate reference values, newer equipment modalities (eg impulse oscillometry), quality control, biologic process control, laboratory standards for hygiene, infection control, personnel qualifications, technician’s role in quality, report generation and formatting.

Prerequisites

Prior exposure to pulmonary function testing and interpretation is required.

Target Audience

Pulmonary physicians, new pulmonary function laboratory directors, midlevel pulmonary providers (NP, PA), family medicine providers, pulmonary rehabilitation providers, pulmonary fellows, and hospitalists are encouraged to attend.

ABIM MOC Statement
Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 15.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.

Upon successful completion of this course, CHEST will submit your completion data to ABIM via ACCME’s Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) for MOC points. Please allow 5-7 business days after claiming for credits to be posted to your ABIM record.

You tuition fee includes attendance at all course sessions and electronic access to course materials. Lunch and refreshments during breaks will be provided. Breakfast is available at CHEST-affiliated hotels. Printed materials or flash drives will not be provided.

After you register for the course, you will receive an e-mail with details about completing the course pretest and accessing course materials (made available 10 to 14 days prior to the course start). Data collected on your performance at hands-on skill stations will be available through our site.

Laptops or tablet computers are required for the course. The general session room will be equipped with wireless Internet access and power for personal electronics.

Cancellation Policy
Tuition refund requests for this course must be received in writing by February 23 for a full refund, less a $100 processing fee. Refunds will not be given after February 23.
